Fernando DeLeon is a Northwest Area Officer and Area Manager. Fernando has overseen some of Shimmick’s largest projects and is currently focusing on Shimmick’s growth and success in the Pacific Northwest.
Fernando joined the Shimmick team in 2009 as a project sponsor and has taken a key leadership role on many of our signature projects since then. Fernando was the project sponsor for the $82 million Golden Gate Bridge Seismic Retrofit, the $28 million BART Contra Costa Crossover, and the $52 million design build Dublin/Pleasanton BART Station. He then served as the Deputy Director for the $787 million Silicon Valley BART Extension Design-Build Project, a 10 mile electrified rail transit extension project through many densely populated areas. During this time, the project had an exemplary safety record, reaching one-million man hours worked without a single recordable incident.
Before coming to Shimmick, Fernando spent over 16 highly successful years with Kiewit Corporation leading projects in California, Oregon, and Washington. While with Kiewit, Fernando worked on a variety of transportation projects and in estimating, including as the construction manager and project manager on the $1.24 billion Oakland Bay Bridge Skyway. He was also the lead estimator for the project.
Fernando holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Davis, which he received in 1993.
