With over 25 years of heavy construction experience with Shimmick Construction, Jeff is an Executive Vice President with Shimmick leading strategy and growth. Jeff was named an Officer and joined the Board of Directors in 1997.
Jeff began his career with Shimmick Construction in 1990 when the office was located in John Shimmick’s garage. Jeff expanded Shimmick operations to Southern California in 1991; performing Caltrans Bridge retrofits throughout the greater Los Angeles Basin. Jeff helped oversee steady growth for the Southern California market through estimating, supervising and managing the completion of projects for the City of Los Angeles, the Port of LA, Los Angeles International Airport, Metrolink and the Alameda Corridor.
In 2002 as part of the company's reorganization following John's retirement; Jeff moved back to the Bay Area to lead the Northwest Division of the company. For over twelve years Jeff led the Northwest, responsible for all aspects operations. Leadership, personnel and business responsibilities included; joint venture partnering; project selection; directing cost estimating and reviews; pricing and project markup. In addition, directing project management and field supervision teams to safely and profitably build numerous project types, including heavy and light rail transit, water and wastewater treatment plants, new and retrofit bridges, electrical and control systems, dams, reservoirs, fish screens, and pump stations.
Under Jeff's guidance the Northwest profitably grew over six times larger; generating over 200 million dollars of revenue in 2014. Jeff’s leadership brought a fun and challenging environment that hires and trains excellent professionals; they voted Shimmick in the Top 20 of the “Best Places to Work in the Bay Area”. In addition, he has had to the opportunity to successfully team with many of the best national and regional contractors.
A Kansas native, Jeff earned his Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University and moved to the Bay Area where he completed his Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley. He is a Registered Professional Engineer and a Licensed Class A Contractor in California. In addition, Jeff has licenses for Electrical Construction in both California and Washington.
