Owner: Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority
Contract value: $5,833,790
The project included grade crossing improvements at eight major intersections throughout Santa Clara County to upgrade the overall safety of the Caltrain freight and passenger rail crossings for pedestrians, bicycles and automobiles. Improvements included installing new signal bungalows, crossing gates and associated equipment at each of the eight grade crossings, cutting over the new signal system at each location, and integrating the new systems into the central control facility—all of which were completed without negatively impacting the operating railroad.
Work also included new guardrails, fences, pedestrian and emergency swing gates, sidewalks, medians, crossing panels and warning tactile tile to assist the visually impaired.
