Owner: City and County of San Francisco
Contract value: $9,740,818
The project included the extensive installation of OCS throughout downtown San Francisco. Construction activities included the replacement of all existing OCS hardware from catenary hangers and steady arm assemblies to power equalizing jumpers and elastic arm assemblies.
Throughout the project, nearly 30,000 linear ft of existing trolley wire was replaced and outfitted with catenary shields that prevent leaking water from dripping onto the energized lines. In other locations instead of replacing the old OCS wiring, more than 25,000 linear ft of new messenger and trolley wires were installed with new supports, hangers, steady arms and power jumpers. Miscellaneous traction power breakers were also rebuilt or replaced.
Work was successfully performed during limited windows to maintain revenue service and without impacting scheduled operations.
