This project is part of Caltrans’ initiative to provide long life pavement rehabilitation through the 710 corridor. As part of this initiative, Shimmick Construction along with its Joint Venture Partner, Myers and Sons Construction are replacing over 34 lane miles of existing pavement with new pavement. The new pavement will consist of the following pavement types:
- Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement
- Jointed Plain Concrete Pavement (Rapid Setting Concrete)
- Precast Prestressed Concrete Pavement
This is also the largest Precast Prestressed Concrete Pavement project in the nation.
Along with this long life pavement rehabilitation, this project is widening the 710 corridor to improve the safety shoulders throughout the limits of the projects. As part of this improvement, 7 existing bridges are being widened and one new bridge is being constructed. Improvements to the existing concrete median barrier and the metal beam guard rail are being constructed as well.
