Located 7.5 miles northwest of Calaveras Dam, the 463-acre mitigation site is roughly bounded by Interstate 680 to the west and State Route 84 to the south. The mitigation area includes ponds, streams, wetlands, woodlands, grasslands and riparian areas that will be restored, established and enhanced to support California Tiger Salamanders, California Red Legged Frogs and Callippe Silverspot Butterflies. The site improvements include the following: gully stabilization and grade control structure installation; stream bank stabilization and channel restoration; spillway/pond stabilization and rehabilitation; temporary vehcle access routes; road drainage improvements; off-channel pool enhancements; cattle ford crossings; buried water line installation for cattle; and road relocation/abandonment of an existing road.
