The project replaced the invert scour protection system in a portion of San Diego Creek in Irvine, CA. The original concrete block scour protection system had failed during heavy storms. The old system was removed and replaced with a new system that included installation of sheet piles at the toe of the creek slopes, concrete pile caps, tiebacks, and rip-rap drop structures. This system was designed to leave a soft-bottom channel that naturally re-vegetates and provides a habitat for animals and birds in the creek. Other minor work included enhancements on the adjacent bike path.
