Joel Atchison, vice president of safety, has more than 30 years of experience as a safety and health professional. Joel manages Shimmick’s safety programs, ensuring these programs are compliant with OSHA and MSHA regulations and standards.
Joel has been with Shimmick since 1992 and has helped with special assignments including the World Trade Center Recovery efforts and Aswan USAID efforts in Egypt. He also managed the National Division’s safety for more than 17 years, overseeing safety programs for highly complex construction and repair projects throughout the U.S., including the $1.8 billion Olmsted Dam project, $240 million Chickamauga Lock Replacement project, $116 million LaGrange Lock and Dam Rehabilitation project, $46.4 million Black Thunder Mine project, and $2.25 billion Hudson Bergen Light Rail Transit project.
Joel has multiple safety certifications and holds both an MBA and Bachelor of Science degree in occupational safety and health.
