Shimmick engineers currently support an AECOM team responsible for the specification development phase of DART’s new vehicle procurement to replace three of its oldest fleets. The team is tasked with delivering an FRA compliant technical specification for a durable, state-of-the-art, light rail vehicle (LRV). The vehicle specification under development will be prepared in such a manner as to clearly state the design, performance, reliability and safety criteria for the new LRV rolling stock. The specification will follow APTA guidelines with ADA features like level boarding for passengers.
This task-order based contract also includes a procurement cost analysis, recommendations for maintenance facility improvements to enhance accommodation of the new LRV, and a disposal plan for the fleets slated for decommissioning. Shimmick engineers and staff provide overall project management, communications system and interface support, document control, and administrative support.
