The New Hampshire Turnpike System comprises three tolled highways: the 44.6-mile Central or F.E. Everett Turnpike, the 16.2-mile Blue Star Turnpike (tolled section of I-95), and the 33.3-mile Spaulding Turnpike. In 2015, NHDOT awarded a contract for the design, implementation, and operation of a new E-ZPass BOS to support their statewide electronic toll collection (ETC) program. Under subcontract to the prime contractor, Shimmick was responsible for all operational aspects of the implementation, transition, and the ongoing operation of the tolling program.
In 2017, the new BOS went live and Shimmick transitioned into the role of Operator. The launch of the new program was a success, but due to a number of variables beyond Shimmick’s control, the transition itself was quite challenging. Shimmick, in partnership with the prime contractor and NHDOT staff throughout the transition phase, overcame all obstacles and transitioned operational responsibility of the CSC and three WICs on the required date.
During full-scale operations, we managed and staffed operations supporting call center, image review, video billing, WIC, mailroom, fulfillment, inventory management, financial reconciliation, audit, and quality. As part of the E-ZPass Group, Shimmick’s scope also included interoperability reconciliations with over 20 other toll agencies every month. In the spring of 2018 the operations of the CSC was successfully transitioned to the prime contractor.
