For this project, Legacy Foundations (a division of Shimmick) drilled over 26,000 linear feet, installed around 12 million pounds of reinforced steel, and placed over 36,000 cubic yards of concrete across more than 400 CIDH shafts. The team also installed over 4,300 linear feet of permanent shoring in large-diameter drilled shafts utilizing corrugated metal pipes (CMPs), leave-behind casing, and slip-in casing. During the project’s peak, Legacy worked in multiple shifts with up to five individual drilling spreads working to ensure safe delivery with zero recordables while following the aggressive project schedules, all within or near one of the largest international airports in the United States. The project spans roughly 2.5 miles, crossing busy public roadways such as Sepulveda and Century Blvd, and includes 266 large-diameter drilled shafts and over 150 small-diameter shafts of depths averaging 60 to 90 feet.
Shimmick did a remarkable job of coming into the emergency situation and analyzing the needs of CDOT…. Everyone was extremely professional and went over and above to address the flooding issues at multiple locations in Northeastern Colorado.
