Transbay Transit Center Structural Concrete

Transbay Transit Center Structural Concrete

The new Transbay Transit Center will be built on the site of the former Transbay Terminal in downtown San Francisco, and it will serve 11 transportation systems: AC Transit, BART, Caltrain, Golden Gate Transit, Greyhound, Muni, SamTrans, WestCAT Lynx, Amtrak, Paratransit and future High Speed Rail from San Francisco to Los Angeles/Anaheim. Once constructed, the new Transit Center will accommodate more than 100,000 passengers each weekday and more than 45 million people per year to make public transportation a convenient and accessible option for everyone who lives, works and visits the San Francisco Bay Area.

Shimmick was awarded the TG06.0 Below Grade Structural Concrete Substructure, Waterproofing, Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing Package for the new Center. The major portion of the work includes the placement of over 100,000 cubic yards of structural concrete for the mat slab (Train Platform Level), below grade perimeter walls, columns and suspended concourse slab level.
