Shimmick Completes Expansion of Orange County’s Record-Setting Ground Water Replenishment System

On March 31, Shimmick reached final completion of their portion of a $198 million expansion (the article link says $284 million, but the guys gave a different number in the transcript) to Orange County’s Ground Water Replenishment System, allowing the facility to take wastewater and convert into as much as 130 million gallons of clean drinking water per day – and making Orange County home to the world’s largest wastewater recycling plant.

The Orange County Water District operates a cutting-edge water recycling program. As the water crisis in the southwest continues to get worse and the nation suffers through more drought years, their water replenishment system is one of the most viable solutions to help get some relief. Orange County was one of the first in the world to operate a facility of this kind, and remains a trend-setter in water reclamation efforts.
