After nearly four years and 1.5 million manhours of work on behalf of the Shimmick-Parsons JV, the $321 million E320 South Bellevue Light Rail project is nearing substantial completion. The Sound Transit project involves the construction of 2.2 miles of the 14-mile East Link extension, which will connect downtown Seattle with Mercer Island and communities east of Lake Washington and serve approximately 50,000 daily riders by 2023. The joint venture also constructed a parking garage for park and ride users and station for boarding light rail commuter trains.
Now that the permanent systems are in place and the physical work is substantially complete, effort has shifted to getting final approval on installations, closing out subcontractors, final rail alignment, completing punch list items, and completion of landscaping.
The parking garage will open to the public on October 2, and the city will take over beneficial access to it, as well as the station area, which is immediately adjacent to the garage. The team is in the process of performing commissioning, testing, and training in preparation of a full turnover to the client.
The success of the project is a testament to collaboration and teamwork amongst the Shimmick-Parsons Joint Venture. Congratulations to our NW and Electrical teams for their work teaming on this incredible project.
