Shimmick’s team at Black Thunder Coal Mine received zero citations during a recent Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) inspection. The Black Thunder Coal Mine is located near Wright, Wyoming in the Powder River Basin and is the largest open-pit coal mine in North America. Our team performs topsoil removal and reclamation activities with Shimmick owned and maintained equipment. MSHA conducts inspections at every mining site in the country twice a year in April and October.
These inspections are extremely thorough with inspectors looking at all facets of the operation from reports and record keeping to equipment, breakrooms, and electrical boxes. This most recent inspection was a nearly two-day event for our 22-person team, who were very prepared to continue their streak of no issues and zero citations for a full year.
This is a very impressive record and underscores the attention to safety and detail the team has instilled in its culture.
