Shimmick has partnered with CEC as the joint venture minority partner to form Folsom Dam Constructions, a joint venture for the Folsom Dam Raise Project. The project is in the very early stages, with the notice to proceed issuing this month and site work to begin in July.
The Folsom Dam Raise Project is a flood risk management project which will provide system-wide flood damage reduction benefits when combined with the common features efforts within the Sacramento Valley. The key project features include main dam spillway work on all eight Tinter gates, which encompasses structural retrofits to the trunnion concrete pier extensions, new elevated hoist platforms, and a new cable hoist system with new electrical controls. Work on the left and right wing dams includes construction of a reinforced, 3.5-feet L-shaped concrete floodwall above existing ground level, embankment work, relocation of utility and security features, and the framing and installation of a 20-feet-wide removable stoplog system through the concrete flood wall near the tie-in location between the main and left dam.
