Shimmick has secured a new contract to expand the Elsinore Valley Municipal Water District (EVMWD) Regional Water Reclamation Facility (RWRF) in Lake Elsinore, CA. The existing wastewater treatment plant is located in Riverside County, approximately 70 miles southeast of Los Angeles.
“Providing our community with safe, reliable water and wastewater services is EVMWD’s top priority,” said Andy Morris, president of the EVMWD board of directors. “And we look forward to breaking ground on this important project.”
Originally constructed in 1985 and subsequently expanded in 1998 and 2003, the facility can treat up to 8 million gallons of wastewater per day (mgd) and will reach maximum permitted capacity within a few years. Under the new contract, Shimmick will expand capacity to 12 mgd to meet the District’s wastewater treatment and recycled water needs in the coming years.
The project includes construction of a new fine screen facility, two aeration basins, a membrane bioreactor facility, and a UV disinfection facility. Shimmick will also improve the influent bypass facility; modify and expand the influent pump station, headworks, odor control facility; and modify the dewatering area.
“The Board’s approval awarding a contract for the plant expansion will help the district meet the area’s increasing growth and position us for future needs,” shared EVMWD General Manager, Greg Thomas. “Our service area is only 35 percent built out, as well as state and federal regulations continue to change.” “We are looking forward to partnering with EVMWD to deliver this much-needed project,” said Jimmy Draper, vice president of Shimmick’s operations in Southern California. The project will break ground summer 2023 and is slated for completion in 2027.
