The purpose of this project was to retrofit the digester gas engines at Plant No. 1 and No.2 . The emissions control work included the installation of catalytic oxidizer/selective catalytic reduction systems and digester gas cleaning systems at both plants. In addition, this project installed a steam convertor at Plant No.2, installed a HVAC system at Plant 2, replaced the Plant No.1 and Plant No. 2 CenGen roofs, added controls to the existing Plant No. 1 absorption chillers, refurbish Plant No.2 intake fans, and included piping modifications to the Plant No.2 cooling water line. Shimmick self-performed the electrical, mechanical, civil, structural concrete, structural steel, insulation and commissioning.
Shimmick maintained facility operation and did not impact the continuous operation of the eight engines to allow for the uninterrupted generator operation for plant electricity. Shimmick devised complex sequencing and coordination with the owner which we were able to successfully implement. Shimmick kept the facility operational during construction and completed the project on schedule.
